79% of Britons back energy drink ban for under 16s

The government is planning to ban under 16s in England from buying energy drinks such as Red Bull and Monster. While many supermarkets have already introduced a voluntary ban, a third of children are believed to consume the drinks at least once a week.

The government’s move should prove popular with the public, with 79% of Britons supporting a ban on energy drinks for children, while just 11% are opposed.

Support for a ban is lower among younger Britons, with 70% of 18-24 year olds in favour, compared to 81% of both 25-49 and 50-64 year olds and 77% of over 65s.

As part of a wide ranging interview with Sky News, former prime minister Liz Truss said that she would never rule out a return to frontline politics, alongside claiming she was not at fault for what happened during her short tenure at Number 10 and saying the UK needed a Trump-style revolution.

A Truss return would not be popular with the public, with just 7% of Britons believing it would be a good thing, compared to 60% who think it would be a bad thing. A further 17% say it would be neither a good nor a bad thing.

Even among Conservative voters, just 9% feel a Truss return would be a positive move, while 50% would view her returning as a bad thing, as would 75% of Lib Dems and 78% of Labour voters.

Reform UK voters are most supportive of the former PM returning to the political frontline, with 22% believing it would be a good thing, though 28% see it neutrally and 40% would view it as a bad thing.

For many children, this week is the one they’ve been dreading all summer – they’re heading back to school. But will they one day feel differently about their years in the classroom?

Six in ten adult Britons (61%) say they enjoyed going to school, including 25% who say they enjoyed it a lot. This is against 37% who say they didn’t enjoy school very much or even at all.

It doesn’t appear to be solely a case of your view becoming more rose-tinted as you age, with 59-65% of all age groups recalling enjoying school.
